    From live music to cultural discussions and ways to support Black-owned businesses, here’s some of what’s happening in and around Charlotte in March. Many of these events are online, but for those in person—bring ya mask.

    Small Space Sessions 

    When: Every Saturday in March

    Where: Dupp & Swat

    Cost: Free

    Featured artists showcase their talents every Saturday in Dupp & Swat’s community space. Find the schedule, start time and artist announcements on the @duppandswat Instagram page. 

    The Block: Creators of Culture – Part 2

    When: March 2, 6:30pm 

    Where: Instagram Live via @itstheblock_

    Cost: Free

    Join host Ohavia Philips and special guests Marcus Kiser, Wolly V and John Hairston Jr. for a continuation of the conversation “Creators of Culture”—a discussion about the history Black art and culture in Charlotte.

    The Best of Both Worlds

    What’s the best way to fund creatives? Join Hue House founders in this conversation about the opportunity to fund Charlotte’s creative sector through philanthropy and economic development. 

    Shop Weekends at The Freedom Market in Charlotte

    When: Every Saturday and Sunday in March, 11am-5pm

    Where: 1635 W Trade St, Charlotte, NC

    Cost: Free

    Shop and explore Black-owned businesses at this weekend market. Enjoy tasty food and drinks along the way.

    Photography Workshop with Featured Model Delania

    When: March 7th at 1:00pm

    Where: Blackbox Studios, 3120 Latrobe Drive, Suite #250

    Cost: Free 

    Bring your camera gear for an informative and explorative workshop.

    Queen City Streams Series – Free Livestream Performances Powered by Mandolin

    When: Every Wednesday in March

    Where: Online, Find tickets for each artist on Eventbrite

    Cost: $10 suggested donation to keep these events going

    Watch live concerts online featuring Charlotte-based artists. Performing this month:  Late Bloomer, Temperance League, Jim Sharkey, Moderan Moxie, and  Donetta Davis.

    Hip-Hop Orchestra

    When: March 6, 6pm

    Where: Online

    Cost: $20

    Described as “B-Boy meets Beethoven,” Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra combine hip-hop and orchestra accompaniments for a one-of-a-kind musical experience.

    Charlotte Photography Club

    When: Multiple dates in March

    Where: Online  

    Cost: $30-$69

    Photographers of all skill levels are invited to the Charlotte Photography Club to learn new skills to sharpen and improve photography techniques.

    Small Business Pop Up!

    When: Saturday, March 13, 10am-6pm

    Where: Carolina Place Mall

    Cost: Free

    Shop a variety of small, locally-owned businesses. From jewelry to home decor, this pop-up shop is sure to offer something for everyone.

    The Gena n Jess Show

    When: March 19, 7:00pm

    Where: Studio 229

    Cost: General Admission  $25, Premium and VIP Seating available

    J Macks and Gena Chambers team up to bring their unique energies and vocal stylings to the Studio 229 stage.

    Grow With Google

    When: Multiple dates in March

    Where: Online 

    Cost: Free

    Get Your Local Business on Google Search and Maps,  and Learn the Basics of Google Ads are two of the workshop topics offered this month. Register online.

    Melanated Exchange Market

    When: March 28, 2-6pm

    Where: Northridge Middle School, 7601 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC

    Cost: Free to attend. Vendor fees vary.

    The Melanated Exchange Market is celebrating Women’s History this month by featuring and accepting businesses owned by Black women.
