Despite COVID-19 sidelining all the plans this year, we somehow still found a way to party.
From Club Quarantine to Verzuz battles and Questlove Presents—music has really been here for us during the pandemic. That’s why the CLT DJ Battle plans to keep that same energy, bringing the Queen City and surrounding areas together to rock with some of the region’s favorite DJs next month.
Set for Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. via Zoom, this all-virtual experience is another wave to add to your Saturday night in. The event is free, but you have to RSVP to get access.
The CLT DJ Battle made its debut in July of 2019, after the initial outdoor event was postponed due to bad weather. Even with the switch-up, Charlotte music heads packed Camp North End favorite Dupp&Swat, to experience the premiere battle. Watch a recap here .
Six DJs will compete in the 2020 finale—current CLT DJ Battle champion DOMii, DJ Rob 1Der, FijiBoi Dlo, DJ RaQuest and DJ Bezzie Beatz.
Organizers say they started the event to bring Charlotte’s diversity front and center, in a music scene that’s often divided. Participating DJs represent a variety of genres from hip-hop to EDM, pop, soul and more—and supporters are united on the mission of creating spaces that showcase talent without the filters.
Now one year in, the CLT DJ Battle is still on a mission to promote the people, the community and the culture.
The Block is among the sponsors of this year’s event, which was expanded to include entries from cities within a 150-mile radius of Charlotte.
The competition started with 22 online submissions and drew thousands of fan votes to solidify the semifinals. Those battles can still be watched at cltdjbattle.com. Live viewers will vote for the winner of the final battle during next month’s event, and crown this year’s champion.
