    Views 2.14k

While 2020 is a thing of the past, we’re still living in dark times. Between the pandemic and Trump threatening not to leave the White House, there is no telling where things are going. Thank goodness we still have those in the world of art to brighten our day with their gorgeous work.

These artists’ talent is exactly what we need to make the dark times, full of color. If you’re looking to brighten your walls, here’s a list of painters and artists that you really need to get into.

    KISS THE ARTIST

Kiss the artist, that is exactly what her work makes you want to do. Alexis Sutton’s custom work will brighten up any space you want. The self-taught Plymouth, NC-raised artist specializes in color therapy— utilizing crystals and special colors for home decor such as coasters, wall art, prints and more. Her work even caught the eye of fellow 252 native, rapper Rhapsody, who she was able to gift with a piece at a show. It doesn’t stop there. She also created an adult coloring book for adults to relieve stress, and probably learn how to color in the lines for a change.

    ROD H.

You know how people say music and art go hand-in-hand? Well Rod H. created it. His love of music and paint has led his brush to capture our favorite artists in colors, you’ve never seen before. From Nipsey Hussle to Sade, Rod’s Art Shack will have you feeling like you are at the Grammy Awards, past and present. Not to mention, his creativity with painting the Black woman…..*chefs kiss*

    JAZMINE MCFADDEN

The media might try to paint Black people in a negative light, but that’s why artists like Jazmine McFadden exist. The way her brush captures our people in such a captivating way, is a gift. The work of the Hampton University graduate and owner of Art of Jaz LLC can be seen on walls, mugs and crewnecks. If you’re lucky, you might catch her beautiful artistry on a pillow. Trust us, it will make your couch look 100 times better.

    X THE ARTIST

The revolution will not be televised if X the Artist has anything to do with it. The Brooklyn-born collage-style artist uses his art to get his true feelings across. Primarily aiming at social justice issues and inspired by his great-grandmother, X’s work has led him to collaborate with some hip-hop heavy hitters such as Jim Jones, Curren$y, 2Chainz and more. Also known as ‘Harry Hippie,’ he designs other creative pieces for the luxurious smoker. Order one of his gold lighters, and we guarantee you won’t lose it.

    DeeLashee Artistry

If you ever catch yourself reminiscing on the good ol’ days, like going to church with your grandma or getting burnt while your mother is doing your hair, you might want to grab one of Deann Wiley’s pieces. Founder of DeeLashee Artistry, the self-taught artist captures what love really is in all forms. She also knows how to capture your favorite queens in a way that looks like she took their picture. Issa Rae even took notice after shouting her out on Twitter. Not bad for a sister that has only been doing this for 4 years, huh?

    Quan B.

Many people forget that tattoo artists are just that, artists. It’s dope when someone is talented enough to use the body and paper, as their canvas. That’s what Quan B. does. His love for sports has brought him to paint the likes of Tiger Woods, Kevin Garnett and the late Kobe Bryant. Creator of Vivid Vision Clothing, his brush touches hoodies, crocs and more, making all his customers a walking canvas.

    Staci J.

Abstract art can definitely be hard to understand, but one thing it does is catch your attention. Staci J’s use of color and shapes is enough to make you stare for what seems like hours. The Brooklyn-based artist showcases nature through art. What looks like a triangle in a circle is somehow portrayed as the sunset., or is it?
