Here at The Block, we always want to make sure that you are equipped with the tools and resources needed to vibrate at your highest. This month is no different.
We’ve curated this list of October events that we feel are important to Black creatives, and the culture. We’ve included both virtual and in-person offerings, so there’s something for everyone. Check them out and pull up if you can.

Jazz Arts Charlotte and Music Everywhere present: Jazz Vocal Workshop
When: October 1- November 19, 6:30 pm -8:30 pm
Where: Online
Cost: Tuition Based. Financial Aid available
In this 8 week workshop, Dawn Anthony will teach vocal artists strategies and exercises for an optimal vocal jazz performance. For adults and youth age 16 +. Registration required. Space is limited.
CLT DJ Battle
When: October 3, 7pm-8:30pm

Cost: Free, RSVP required
Will your favorite DJ take home the crown? Watch six local DJs compete in the second annual CLT DJ Battle finale. Tune in and cast your vote for the DJ that keeps you on your feet.
Middle C Jazz

Floral Bar Pop Up

Entrepreneurship for Women (open to all persons identifying as women), Selling Online for the Upcoming Holiday Season, and Establishing a Wellness Routine are a few of the workshop topics offered this month. Register online.
Live from the Crown with Harvey Cummings II

Broadcasting live from Crown Station, listen to the sounds of award-winning and nationally recognized saxophonist, pianist, and songwriter, Harvey Cummings II.
Modifyed Opening Reception

Explore the multidisciplinary work of five creatives whose creativity knows no bounds. The night will feature live music and dinner available from The Restaurant at Alchemy by reservation. Masks required for entry.
SouthEnd ARTS presents JUSTICE, Virtual Art Party Premiere

Charlotte native and acclaimed artist, Tommie Robinson, will be featured as this month’s social justice speaker.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s Engage 2020

Engage 2020 aims to connect and promote discussion about the history of voting, social change movements, and civic engagement in the United States through the activation of the Arts community and community conversations. Search topics and register on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library website.
Live from the Print Shop
When: First and 15th of the month
Where: Streaming live from Live From the Print Shop YouTube Channel
Cost: Free
Watch independent and national artists perform live while backed by a live band on the showroom floor of the MacFly Fresh Print Shop. As the band/artist performs, graphic designers develop a unique design, which will be printed and presented to the performing artist at the conclusion of their performance.
